In 1983 LaToya moved to a burgeoning new CBS Associated label, Private-I Records, with the single Bet'cha Gonna Need My Lovin' which flew into the top forty of Billboard's R&B chart. LaToya continued to work on her third LP through the beginning of 1984, enlisting help again from her famous brothers, as well as Kool & The Gang, Kay-Gees guitarist Amir Bayyan, Musical Youth and Shalamar's Howard Hewett. The Heart Don't Lie album saw LaToya's star rise even higher, with a handful of successful singles like Hot Potato, the Prince-penned Private Joy and the title track, which charted at number 54 on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles chart. LaToya Jackson has done it all. For the past four decades, LaToya's resume has swelled to boast acting credits, two best-selling books, multiple Grammy nominations, AIDS and domestic abuse awareness activism, two top-selling issues of Playboy, designing and modeling high-end fashion and most recently, her entrepreneurial success and fine-tuned business acumen. LaToya's sizzling spectacular of a fourth album, the funky pop/new wave infused Imagination, was almost entirely helmed by Mike Piccirillo and Gary Goetzman, who had produced for musical legends like Smokey Robinson and Thelma Houston and were signed to an exclusive song writing deal with Private-I. The album was released to little fanfare, due largely to a floundering record label. This resulted in a low chart position for the album's lead single, He's a Pretender.' Limited edition of 2000.
