Following the example of fellow countrymen ANEKDOTEN, LAST LAUGH is influenced by the dark and tormented music of KING CRIMSON, especially the "Larks' Tongues In Aspic" period. Heavy-metal, PRIMUS and Frank ZAPPA are the other guests here, for the listener's greatest pleasure. The scandinavian musicians develop the feverish themes carrying a real tension and a touch of cold metal. The incandescent guitar parts create aggressive sounds, whereas the drumming is quite reminiscent of Bill BRUFORD's, and put on the foreground. Urgent and energetic, sometimes including hallucinated vocals in the style of QUIET SUN, this music also generates oppressing ambiences, thanks to nervous and paroxysmal guitar sounds that evoke Robert FRIPP or Phil MANZANERA (801 period). Let's also note that bassist-singer Marcus PEHRSSON is also involved in DARXTAR. Jointly published by the Musea and Record Heaven labels, "Meet Us Where We Are Today" (1998) is a must of the Scandinavian School... And this means a lot ! Not to be missed...
