Lavay Smith & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers is the full name of Lavay Smith 's band. Smith is an United States|American singer specialising in the Blues and Jazz , from Swing music|Swing to Bebop . She is known as The Queen of Classic Jazz & Blues .Smith performs her own original compositions as well as songs made famous in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s by the great women of Jazz and Blues , including Bessie Smith , Billie Holiday , Helen Humes , Dinah Washington , Ella Fitzgerald , Sarah Vaughan , Carmen McRae , Big Maybelle and Esther Phillips . Smith is an independent artist and owns her own record label, Fat Note Records.

Trumpet player Allen Smith is a recipient of the San Francisco Jazz Festival Beacon Lifetime Achievement award. Trumpet player Bill Ortiz has been a member of Carlos Santana 's band for over 7 years and can be heard on Santana's last 4 albums, including the hit record " Smooth ". Tenor Saxophone player Howard Wiley and Bassist David Ewell toured with Lauryn Hill on and off throughout 2007.

Lavay Smith & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers won the San Francisco Regional Poll in The 1st Annual The Independent Music Awards|Independent Music Awards for "I Want a Big Fine Daddy". Her second album, " Everybody’s Talkin’ ‘Bout Miss Thing! " spent 20 consecutive weeks on the Billboard Magazine Jazz Charts, reaching number 10.
