HEADLINE: Interview with LIL MACC LOCO

ARTICLE TEXT:
Q. At what age did you realize you wanted to become a music artist and why?

I was 17 with dreams of becoming a pro football player, However, when reality set in that I was not good enough music became an exciting alternative.

Q. Most music artists have that special someone or thing that influenced their decision to do music. Did anyone or something in your life play a major role in influencing you to go into the music business?

Yes, I was inspired by a rapper called Scarface. I could identify with his aggressive rap style and it feed into my mental state at the time.

Q. In terms of the music, which major artist(s) influenced your style and why?

Actually all the rappers before me influence my style because I think I have a little of all of them but like I said in the last question it would be Scarface

Q. With so many independent artists trying to make it, what makes you stand out from the competition?

Because I attack my lyrics not as a lyricist but as a conscious writer. Meaning that there is more to the lyrics then the surface, I do my research

Q. Music industry professionals are quick to say that being an artist means to gracefully fit a marketable niche in the industry. If you were offered an opportunity that asked you to be something you are not, would you do it to get your foot in the door?

Absolutely not, Imagine the results of asking a writer of horror films to write a love novel.

Q. Making music is one thing, selling it is another. What types of strategies do you use in promoting your artistic work and getting it heard by the proper professionals?

I have taken a very serious approach to the creation and placement of my marketing materials. I like to make sure that my listeners have a quality product that I can place in their hands. I do this with good look cd slip sheets and silk screened cds. I take advantage of the World Wide Web, hitting every music site I can find and I sell my music by being my own salesman. I am known for being found at the local gas stations, car washes, and swap meets selling my product. I go on trips to other places and do the same.

Q. In regards to wheeling and dealing, how important do you feel business knowledge is to making it in an industry filled with much heartache?

Knowledge is power. Without the appropriate knowledge it is easy for predators to take advantage of and rob you.

Q. Let's fast forward to 5 years from now. What advice would you offer to struggling independent artists?

To look at it as your musical product as a business. You need to get your priorities in order and develop a business plan.

Q. Most successful artists are involved in charitable organizations that stand for a cause that hits close to home. In that regard, once you reach success, what charitable cause(s) would you like to be involved in and why?

I don't no if they have charitable organizations for parents of children who pass suddenly from sickness, drowning,or crib death but being a father who has lost a son to sickness and not having the money to even bury him, that would be a organization I would definitely be apart of.

Well, we thank you for taking the time to interview with us and certainly wish you the best in your music career endeavors. There you have it ladies and gentlemen, an inside look into the mind of an independent artist struggling to bring their hard work to fruition in an industry where perseverance and thick skin means survival. No one said it would be easy.
