Daughter of poet Tereza Souza and singer - composer - guitarist Walter Santos, she grew up in São Paulo . She is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston from which she received a Bachelor's degree in Jazz Composition. She then received a Master's degree from the New England Conservatory|New England Conservatory of Music .
She has been nominated four times for a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album|Grammy Award as best jazz vocalist. She has appeared and recorded with both renowned jazz musicians and composers of new music, including Danilo Perez , Hermeto Pascoal , Romero Lubambo , Maria Schneider (musician)|Maria Schneider , Kenny Werner , John Patitucci , Herbie Hancock , and Osvaldo Golijov .
Since 2004, Luciana has been the Jazz Artist in Residence with the San Francisco Performances.
She has been married to music producer Larry Klein since 2006.
She made a guest appearance on Walter Becker 's 2008 album Circus Money , produced by her husband Larry Klein .
