Q. To set the tone for the readers, how would you describe your sound?
ANSWER HERE: Our sound can best be described as a lucrative clash between Southern drawl and Nothern swag. No one can really classify the VA sound b/c it’s kinda a mash-up of ALL sounds.
Q. So you are about to release a new album, tell us everything about it starting with the name of the album.
ANSWER HERE: The name of our debut album is entitled ‘ITZ ABOUT TIME’ and it’s pretty much self-explanatory. We’ve been doing this music thing for 15+ years but it has just recently started to catch people’s attention. We figured it was time to add some new flava to the game. We can’t believe that as long as hip hop has been around, there has never been a distinct male/female rap duo-so we just felt that it was about time for us to shed some light on the game. We offer you a little bit of everything on the album-club bangers, concept songs, love songs-whatever you want, we have it for you on ‘ITZ ABOUT TIME’. No profanity, no violence, just good music.
Q. Who else was involved in helping you bring this album to fruition?
ANSWER HERE: Of course our production teams-Madd Men Productions (myspace.com/madmen), who have done work with Murphy Lee on his upcoming album ‘The Package’ and the VIPs (veryincredible.com), who help us place a track with Atlantic Records R&B songstress Deemi. Both of our production teams are truly awesome and extremely talented. Other than that, our label CEO’s had a lot of say in what we put on the album.
Q. What would you say some of the challenges you encountered in doing this album were?
ANSWER HERE: Being signed to an independent label poses a challenge because our budget isn’t that of what a major label artist would get so our album has been pushed back several times. Another challenge lies in being able to please our fans. With the current state of hip hop, we never know what people want to hear but we have learned one thing-we can’t please everyone!
Q. Can you give us some insight into where, what or who motivated you to do the album?
ANSWER HERE: Everyday life influences us. Friends, family, and situations that we go through. Keep in mind that it is entertainment but for the most part, we speak about things that we have experienced or emotions that we have felt.
Q. What would you say is the best single and why do you think it is?
ANSWER HERE: I believe that our best single is ‘STEP-show ya grill’. It was our first radio single from the album and it has carried us to unbelievable places. It broke the barrier for us and made a lot more people pay attention to VA’s underground artists. It’s very simplistic and it went along with the instructional dance songs that were getting major play at the time. The only thing different is that the song is for the hood-it talks about our life in Portsmouth, VA and I think that’s what attracted most people to the song-the hood vibe.
Q. Are you planning to produce videos for any of the songs on this album?
ANSWER HERE: We are in the process of producing videos for DROPONEM and I LIKE…-two club bangers from the album.
Q. Are you planning to tour to promote this album? If so, when and where will you be performing?
ANSWER HERE: No tours as of yet
Q. So how do you see this album propelling your career in the music industry?
ANSWER HERE: We hope that our album will open some industry doors for us. There is absolutely NO way that you can’t like this album unless you’re just a blatant hater. Hopefully, it will bring us new endorsements and other entertainment opportunities.
Q. And we can’t forget to ask, of course, when and where can fans buy this album?
ANSWER HERE: The album will hit the streets APRIL 1 and can be found by visiting myspace.com/makinmovezrecs
Q. One last question for you: What other great things or projects can we look forward to hearing about from you in the future?
ANSWER HERE: We have put together a non-profit organization called Project READ (Research Empowers A Dream) which advocates and promotes literacy and educational advancement within our inner city communities. We are in the process of coordinating a big sports tournament for this summer so check our page for updates.
We would like to thank you for talking with us and we wish you all the best!
