Hooked on The Blues when he heard Ray Charles and Louis Armstrong for the first time, Maurice's debuted in a high school rock band that won a battle of the bands in its first gig .
Later came the blues group Red Meat, which featured Ray Montana, later guitarist with Sawyer Brown, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Waylon Jennings and Johnny Paycheck.
Maurice went to the Berklee College of music where he encountered musicians like Gary Burton, Al Copley (Roomful of Blues), and bassist Ron McClure (Charles Lloyd, Wynton Kelly, Quest, The 4th Way, Joe Henderson, Blood, Sweat & Tears, The Pointer Sisters, Sarah Vaughan, Thelonious Monk)
In Toronto he began Dirty Movies with Mark French, later drummer with Blue Rodeo.
Then came Automatic Slim, in classic venues like The El Macombo, The Silver Dollar, and the Black Swan. The band was once house band at four different clubs, and had the best grossing Wednesday at the lower El Macombo.
Artist Mission
To take the Blues into the Twenty-First Century, and to keep it from being a museum piece. The emotional soul impact of the blues does not have to be diluted when it is combined with the rhytmns and sounds of hip hop, r'n'b and world music
