Album Summary
This record was first heard on the 2002 soundtrack 'Donnie Darko' & this release has been much awaited since then. Roland Orzabel who wrote 'Mad World' & had a hit with it in 'Tears For Fears' has said that this version is much better than the original. The vocals by Gary Jules compliment the haunting piano riffs beautifully & proves why it is a clear favorite on the soundtrack. The title track is backed with 'No Poetry' (from Jules' 2001 album 'Trading Snakeoil for Wolftickets') & 'Mad World' (Alternative Version from 'Donnie Darko' Soundtrack). Sanctuary. 2003.
Michael Andrews spent three months creating this score using an orchestra of obscure vintage synthesizers and drum machines. Inara George adds vocals in several climactic moments throughout the film.
Andrew Lloyd Webber's sensational new musical. Lloyd Webber has again joined forces with Trevor Nunn, the internationally renowned director responsible for staging some of the most successful musicals of all time, including Cats, Starlight Express, Les Mis rables and, most recently, the London revival of Anything Goes. EMI Classics. 2004.
The nature of Alexander’s Feast is perhaps better summed up by its other title, The Power of Music. It is a celebratory ode for St. Cecilia’s Day, written by Dryden in 1697 for the traditional celebration of the patron saint of music and set in celebratory style by Handel in 1736. At its first performance that year, he incorporated two delightful concertos, one for harp and one for organ, and these are included on this recording. Winner of the Deutschen Schallplattenkritic prize.
