Moderatto is a Mexican band active since the late-1990s.

Beginning

Moderatto began playing in the mid nineties in Mexico City, as a parody of the glamorous style of many 1980s bands like Poison (band)|Poison and Mötley Crüe or the makeup of Alice Cooper . Originally started as a side project for the members' original bands, they eventually became very popular among members of the Mexican alternative scene. With their coming to the mainstream, they became hugely popular, gaining fans among the traditional pop music audiences.

Mainstream debut

They launched their mainstream debut CD, Resurrexión in 2001. This album quickly gained popularity thanks to their first single "Márchate Ya" and the later "Isabel". In November 2004 they launched El Detector de Metal , whose first single "Muriendo Lento", featuring female pop singer Belinda (entertainer)|Belinda , was a huge hit that gave Moderatto their first real taste of mainstream success. Since the launch of the Detector de Metal , the band has been giving huge concerts that have been completely sold out in Mexico's most important arenas, like the Auditorio Nacional and Teatro Metropolitan.

Influences

Moderatto emulates the 1984 mock rockumentary directed by Rob Reiner This Is Spinal Tap and big '80s bands like Mötley Crüe and Poison with their style and clothing. The band is formed by well-known musicians and actually started as an alternative band for many of them.

Music

The group released an album at the end 2006 titled Grrrr . The first single off of Grrrr! is "Sentimetal", which in three weeks climbed to #3 in the Mexican Top 40.

Following No Hay Otra Manera , Moderatto released their next single, "Si Mi Delito Es Rockear (Me Declaro Culpable) If Rocking Is My Crime (Then I Plead Guilty)".

Most recently, the group has released Queremos Rock We want Rock .

Criticism

Despite wearing a glam metal themed attire and covering known glam metal songs, the band is a known target of criticism, specifically from the Heavy metal subculture|heavy metal sector. This is mainly due their great amount of Pop music|pop songs covered from pop artists like Luis Miguel or Cristian Castro and due to their commercial aimed style and attitude. Moderatto has become famous as a band itself and not as a mock band.
