Mohave is Americana music for the 21st century, a refreshingly unique band with a great ear for a story. Based on stories and legends out of the southwestern United States, the music of Mohave is a tribal mixture of slave chants and Native American rhythms colliding with bluegrass, Celtic, latin, reggae, rock, jazz and pop. Featuring electrified mountain dulcimer and trumpet as main instruments, audiences near and far have never seen or heard the likes of Mohave.
A founding member of Christian techno-punk band Crazed Bunnyz, Bing Futch is the lead storyteller; part balladeer and part ringmaster who is one of only a handful of rock dulcimer players. Bunky Garrabrant plays an array of instruments with virtuosity and her strong, clear voice shines in each song. Automatic John Coker provides creative support on keyboards and mouth harp while lending voice to the group’s stunning harmonies. One of the tightest rhythm pockets in the state is anchored by drummer J.D. Fosse, working hand in hand with bass guitarist Randy Kemp, equal parts Tony Levin, Paul McCartney and Sting on his instrument. Together, through years of performing and practicing, they form a dynamic coil of energy that springs forth and retracts to suit the stories.
A Mohave live show is an exciting, emotional experience. The quintet clearly enjoys playing music and putting on a show, paying close attention to the audience and casually including them in the festivities. Visually, they are a kinetic sight to behold. Blurring, whirling, stomping, leaping, grooving, dreadlocks flying, sticks twirling as the band cuts loose with an energy that often produces shows of two hours or longer.
Artist Mission
Mohave is committed to the vision of establishing Nowhere, Nevada as the themed hub of a multi-media marriage. By applying our vision on several different levels, we intend to not only record conceptual albums and produce music videos, we also look to film a motion picture, followed by a 30-minute anthology series for cable. Our mission is not to make money, but to supply the means with which we can simply continue to create.
