This is possibly the most talked about 'true audiophile' blues recordings ever. Mastered from the original 1964 Chess analog master tapes, this Quiex SV pressing brings out elements of the intimate studio production as never before. Muddy's supporting cast includes Buddy Guy on guitar, with occasional visits by Chess veteran drummer Clifton James, Otis Spann's piano and Willie Dixon at the upright.

For the completist, this three-CD, 72-song box remains the definitive collection of one of the leading lights of Chicago blues. The collection spans 25 years, beginning with rare early recordings with pianist Sunnyland Slim and moving through Waters's peak '50s period, which offered the legendary support of Jimmy Rogers, Little Walter, and Otis Spann. Luminaries including Pat Hare, James Cotton, Earl Hooker, Buddy Guy, and Pinetop Perkins all make valuable contributions to his '60s work. After taking a backlash from critics with first attempt at adopting psychedelic influences on Electric Mud, Muddy made adjustments for the follow-up, despite keeping a majority of the same session players.
