|
Paul Wiancko recently obtained a degree in cello performance from the University of Southern California , where he was a student of Ronald Leonard. He has appeared throughout Southern California, including solo performances at the Performing Arts Center of Orange County, Irvine Barclay, Thorne Hall, and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
Paul's accomplishments include recieveing the Spotlight Award, the Los Angeles Violoncello Society scholarship award, the Philharmonic Society of Orange County scholarship award, winning the John Walker Competition and Debut Concerto Competition. He was principal cellist of the Colburn Chamber Orchestra in Los Angeles, the Disney Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra, and the USC Thornton Symphony.
Paul has performed for Yo-Yo Ma in two masterclasses and has had similar experiences with various performers and teachers including Alan Harris, Samuel Rhodes, Joel Smirnoff, Ben Hong, Danny Rothmuller, Donald Weillerstein, Midori, Norman Krieger, and Truls Mork. He has performed in a wide variety of concerts, including an orchestral performance with Ma, a chamber performance with members of the Ysaye String Quartet, and a solo performance with the Debut Orchestra.
Paul spends quite a bit of time in the studio as well, and has worked face-to-face with various producers including Jonathan Plum of Pearl Jam and Darian Rundall of Pennywise. Producer Andrew Bojamic of the Wizardz of Oz (Britney Spears, Ricky Martin) says: "Paul has an amazing pop sensibility that not many classical musicians have." Paul has played in bands ranging from acoustic pop to electronica and is currently working and playing shows with singer Morgan de Lacroix.
Artist Mission
To, in some small way, bring the integrity and values of classical music closer to the "pop" world. Quality and integrity should be the most important factors in any kind of music, if you want your music to survive.
My strengths include performance, composition in the studio, as well as improvisation in any style--from Gypsy to classic rock--on the stage.
