The presence of sultry voiced Phoenix on stage captivates her audience and brings a renewed spirit to those who have come to hear her. Phoenix or the Ladybird of Song, as she is known to some, has a vocal presence that blends a mixture of gospel, tinged with jazz and some deeply grounded blues. Her trademark techniques include a low voice manipulation and an uncanny ability to sing any standard with an original interpretation. Among her career highlights, Phoenix has performed with nationally acclaimed Grammy winner Albert Collins, W.C. Handy lifetime award winner Robert Lockwood Jr., Saffire, and spent over a decade as lead vocalist for world renowned King Solomon. During this time, Phoenix was the first act to perform at the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame (9/1/95) in Cleveland, Ohio. She is currently the president of her family owned independent record label, Shaina Productions and plans a release by Fall, 2006. Her other accomplishments include performing with an array of musicians in the Chicago area. Her most memorable band performance to this date, have been with the following: Bob Gutherie Jazz Band, "Flight" aka Karl Johnson Trio, Tyler Quartet, Snatch Inc., AND ZIMPROV. brbrPhoenix has also had many quest appearance on local television, most notably : Tribute at the Twilight Zone & Talents Incorporated w/ Dr. Hooks. Most recently, Phoenix was selected to portray Dinah Washington in a play at the DuSable Museum “Back in the Day II”. brbrPhoenix is also a DJ at WHPK for a jazz music show entitled Jazz in Flight which airs every other Tuesday 7-9pm.
