Phutureprimitive (or Phutureprimitive Soundlabs) is the musical pseudonym employed by DJ Rain (which is itself a musical pseudonym) for his creations in ambient, psytrance, and downbeat music.
DJ Rain, based in Portland, Oregon, initiated his DJ career in 1992 in the Pacific Northwest; in 1996 he began to develop his own music in the related "downtempo/psy-chill/phuture-dub" genres. Unusually reticent for a DJ (he uses, after all, a pseudonym for a pseudonym), Rain kept his music private for nearly a decade, until the release of his debut CD, Sub Conscious, in 2004, on the Waveform label. He does, however, collaborate with other musicians, most notably vocalist Alyssa Palmer, and Leroy Espiricueta, percussionist and didgeridoo player.
