Subtitled - The Soul Of A Diva. Import exclusive compilation for the soul/jazz vocalist known as 'The Goddess Of Love' features 16 tracks including previously unreleased recordings, mixes, & alternate takes along with collaborations with McCoy Tyner & Thom Bell that were previously unavailable on CD. Expansion. 2003.
2 CD set from the Philadelphia Intl label years. As with many great artists, Hyman has become more appreciated posthumously. Though her popularity during her life was generally limited to soul and smooth jazz audiences, her influence on songstresses from Anita Baker to Tamia is evident, and her music has aged wonderfully. After leaving Arista, her first album for Philly Int'l and greatest album overall, 1987's Living All Alone was released, a wonderful collaboration with both Gamble & Huff and the great Thom Bell. The first single from that album was 'Old Friend', a Thom Bell/Linda Creed piano ballad that was perhaps the year's most beautiful soul recording. The album's other highlight was the moody title song, a haunting Gamble & Huff masterpiece. Four years passed before the release of her Nick Martinelli-produced Prime of My Life and her biggest hit, 'Don't Wanna Change the World'. Edsel. 2005.
Worldwide CD debut release for this Phyllis Hyman classic, her first album for Arista Records. At the time she signed with Arista, Phyllis was just starting to attract mainstream popularity, particularly after her classic Loving You, Losing You on Buddah Records. Production on this album was divided between Barry Manilow, T. Life, Larry Alexander and Skip Scarborough. The original 10 track LP is augmented by the addition of two bonus tracks - the 12' version of Kiss You All Over and the 8:50 minute remix of So Strange.
