The band gained their first contract by winning music magazine Metal Hammer 's newcomer competition in Ludwigsburg one year after forming. In 1994, Andi Deris left the band to join German power metal band Helloween . He was replaced by British singer David Readman .
The band, often referred to as The Pinkies , became a five-piece in 2003, when Uwe Reitenauer was hired to support guitar player Alfred Koffler, who suffered from neuropathy .
On March 5, 2012, it was announced that drummer Kosta Zafiriou had left the band, due to his various activities as a manager at the company Bottom Row and as the drummer and manager of the new band Unisonic (band)|Unisonic , which also features Dennis Ward. He was replaced by band's good friend and longtime drum tech Chris Schmidt (drummer)|Chris Schmidt , who has previously played with Sunstorm (band)|Sunstorm project (along with Dennis Ward and Uwe Reitenauer), Harry Hess' FIRST SIGNAL and more. Kosta will continue to work in the management of Pink Cream 69 as well.
It was also announced that the band is currently working on a new album for a fall release via Marquee/Avalon (Japan and Southeast Asia) and Frontiers Music (rest of the world). Guitarist Alfred Koffler gave the statement: "The vibe within the band is very enthusiastic and creative. There are far too many strong songs by Dennis Ward, David Readman and myself to pick from. There will be eleven of them on the album plus a couple of bonus tracks for the different markets and formats. We also will have guest appearances by two famous musicians on the new record — both fans of the band.
