Prefab Sprout return with the eagerly anticipated new album Let s Change The World With Music , their first album in eight years.

Prefab Sprout s classic pop and elegant ballads have provided us with uplifting songs carrying a poignant emotional weight. Rising to fame in the 80 s, Prefab Sprout are one of Britain s most beloved bands. Singer-songwriter Paddy McAloon is revered for his critically acclaimed, intelligent songwriting and is regularly lauded as one of the great British songwriters.

The band s stature has risen steadily in recent years, due in part to the 2007 reissue of their classic album Steve McQueen which earned an 8.6 from Pitchfork, who called it some of the most beautiful, enduring British pop music ever made.

Let s Change The World With Music was written and produced by Paddy McAloon at Andromeda Heights and mixed in Scotland by Calum Malcolm. Paddy began work on Let s Change The World With Music in 1992 in what was the follow-up to Jordan: The Comeback .

The 11-tracks are rejoiceful and uplifting, striking an endearingly familiar chord, all the while sounding fresh and timeless. Highlights are aplenty and include the celestial Ride , the jazzy sway of I Love Music and the melancholic Sweet Gospel Music .

Seven of Prefab Sprout s albums have reached the Top 40 in the UK. Their 1988 album Langley Park To Memphis charted at No. 5 and their 90 s album Jordan: The Comeback yielded a Brit Award nomination for Album of the Year. The band s classic single, "The King of Rock 'N' Roll" peaked at No. 7.

The U.K. punk/new wave explosion of the early 1980s offered up a slate largely clean of both expectations and artistic preconceptions. A few young musicians were brave enough to use it for something other than constructing a new set of clichés, including Newcastle's Paddy McAloon and his band, Prefab Sprout, who became cult faves in the bargain. This generous double-CD set offers up a well-balanced chronicle of McAloon and company's endearingly quirky, ever-literate pop concoctions, dividing its discs between the band's singles (including the privately pressed debut "Lions in My Own Garden") and cuts from a decade's worth of iconoclastic albums. Freely using a delightfully unpredictable palette that included jazz (especially the spare, gorgeous "Couldn't Bear to Be Special"), cabaret, neo-skiffle ("Faron Young"), lounge, and even Broadway--sometimes all in the space of three minutes--Prefab Sprout might well have anticipated much of what became the alt-rock clichés of the '90s, though delivered with a sense of genuine wit and virtually no overweening irony. Paddy MacAloon is arguably one of England's finest modern songwriters, and this 1990 release was a gloriously overlong melange of styles, bound together by some of his most inspired melodies. The nineteen tracks cover a typically diverse range of subject matters, including a quartet of songs about the rise and fall of Elvis Presley that provide the album with its thematic core. Elsewhere, on songs such as "We Let The Stars Go", "All The World Loves Lovers" and "Doo Wop In Harlem" MacAloon's songwriting hit new peaks. Never gaining the commercial success it deserved, "Jordan: The Comeback's" heady brew even appeared to be a step too far for MacAloon, who did not release another album for seven years.

Paddy McAloon & company return with their EMI label debut. These are their first new recordings since 1997's 'Andromeda Heights'. Fresh off their Y2K tour, they recorded this disc in New York with legendary producer Tony Visconti (David Bowie, T.Rex). Paddy's trademark hushed vocals soar here along with sweepingly inventive melodies and strong lyrics. Includes their version of 'Cowboy Dreams' which was covered by Jimmy Nail in the early nineties.
