Biography
BLP sources|date=September 2010 Puff Johnson (born Ewanya Johnson , December 10, 1972, Detroit, Michigan|Detroit , Michigan ) is an United States|American singer-songwriter . She emerged on the music scene with the Single (music)|singles "Forever More", and "Over & Over" which appeared on the Film soundtrack|soundtrack of the film The First Wives Club , the single was a hit record|hit in Europe and Australia reaching the Top 40|Top 20 in both continents. She released her first and critically acclaimed album , Miracle , in 1996. The album was record producer|produced by Randy Jackson of American Idol fame. She has also collaborated with the Bay Area based Rhythm and blues|R& B group, Somethin' for the People ; and with Tupac Shakur on his hit single, "Me Against the World", which was featured on the Bad Boys (1995 film)|Bad Boys movie soundtrack and his album of the Me Against The World|same name .
In 1997 Johnson toured Europe as an opening act for Michael Jackson and 3T . Her debut album was also certified List of music recording sales certifications|silver in the United Kingdom|UK . Towards the end of the year Miracle reached Top 40 in the Netherlands and the single "Over & Over" hit the Top 20.
To date she has not released any further material and has slipped out of the limelight. However Johnson is listed as songwriter|co-writer on three tracks on the 2005 album A Change Is Gonna Come by U.S. singer Leela James (track 3 - "Good Time" along with Gordon Williams, James herself and Kenton Nix, track 7 "When You Love Somebody" with Gordon and James and track 13 "Prayer" alongside Chucky Thompson and James).
Johnson is currently in studio recording songs for her second album which she has said "will be pretty much like the first one, full of great ballads". The official release date has not been announced yet.
Johnson has been living in South Africa since January 2009, following her concert in Johannesburg. She attributes the decision to relocate to South Africa to the friendly and warm people that she’s met throughout her journey in the country.
"I have never met a people as friendly and welcoming as South Africans .. ," she says.
