Career
Raging Speedhorn were formed in 1998 from the merging of the bands Soulcellar and Box. Through a 'frightening' stage presence and minor re-working of riff s reminiscent of Iron Monkey , the band quickly established itself as a major presence within the United Kingdom|UK's metal scene.Citation needed|date=April 2009 Raging Speedhorn featured two singing|vocalists , a style largely inspired by the UK hardcore band Hard to Swallow, second vocalist Bloody Kev's former band. The band's first single (music)|single , "Thumper" ( record producer|produced by industrial music|industrial veteran, Marc Heal ) was released in 2000 to significant critical acclaim.Citation needed|date=April 2009 In 2001 they record chart|charted in the UK Singles Chart with "The Gush".cite book | first= David | last= Roberts | year= 2006 | title= British Hit Singles & Albums | edition= 19th | publisher= Guinness World Records Limited | location= London | isbn= 1-904994-10-5 | page= 448
On early Raging Speedhorn sound recording and reproduction|recordings the music can be characterised by pounding basslines, heavily distorted riff-thick guitarwork and subject content consisting generally (but certainly not exclusively) of hedonism, drug-use, violence, antipathy for major band labels and depression.Citation needed|date=April 2009 On the album, Before the Sea Was Built, the sound finds itself moving away slightly from earlier recordings. The guitar sound is sharper, focusing more on a dischordant style rather than the Iron Monkey riffs of earlier material. The album is maybe more in league with artists such as Breach and Neurosis . The vocal style of Bloody Kev is also a stark contrast to former vocalist Frank Regan, a diverse style which makes it easier to differentiate between the two vocalists.
Before The Sea Was Built was the only album the band produced with Larry Hibbitt, of Hundred Reasons . It was released on 11 September 2007 through Steamhammer, a subsidiary of SPV Records.
On 25 March 2008 it was announced the band was to split after a final tour. The band are now spread far and wide, including Cardiff and Stockholm, Sweden .
