RB review

Get ready for the musical journey of a lifetime with Rare Blend's "Evolution Theory". This album combines a multitude of genres, yet stays within the realm of jazz fusion. Being mostly instrumental might turn some people off, but if you take the time to actually sit down and listen, you'll be amazed at the musicianship and arrangement skills of this quartet. The disc, as a whole, is very upbeat and progressive, every instrument seems to be going a different direction. The roving bass lines and blazing lead guitar licks are complemented by a solid percussive assault. The keyboards add a "fullness" to the mix, filling in all the holes. Everything meshes well on this album.

Members Vic Samalot, Bobbi Holt, Paul Stranahan and Jeff Scott have an obvious passion for music and it's evident with this album. With tracks like "Belly Dancer", my personal favorite, the band creates an almost cerebral experience. The song is very atmospheric, building up and then taking you back down, only to go right back up again. At 7 minutes and 17 seconds it's the disc's longest track, but seems to fly by as you listen to it. I definitely give this album two thumbs up! I guarantee you'll be in for a real musical treat.
