Reik is a Latin Grammy -winning Mexico|Mexican band from Mexicali , Baja California formed by Jesús Alberto Navarro Rosas (lead vocals), Julio Ramírez Eguía (guitar/background vocals), and Gilberto Marín Espinoza (guitar). The group's name actually means "rake" (as in raking the guitar's strings), but the band wanted their Mexican listeners to pronounce it correctly, hence, Reik.

In 2003, Abelardo Vazquez started their then-nascent musical project, tentatively called "Reik". Abelardo Vazzquez invite Jesús Navarro and Julio Ramirez to recorded their first demos, which were released through the Mexico|Mexican underground club scene. Two of the most successful demos — "Levemente" and "Ahora Sin Ti" — brought more widespread coverage across Mexico. In early 2004, Reik invited Gilberto to join the band. They have been famous ever since, mainly in Latin America , Mexico, and southern parts of the United States . Their videos have been broadcast on famous music television channels, such as MTV and Hispanic Television|HTV . Their second album, Secuencia , was released on November 14, 2006, which featured the first single, "Invierno" (released on November 6), which gained a lot of popularity based Latin American airplay. In September 2008 Reik released their third studio album Un dia mas|Un Día Más .

Reik released two new singles "Peligro" and "Dejate Llevar" from their fourth studio album titled "Peligro" which was released July 5, 2011.

Record Deal


By mid-2004 Reik started to get the attention of various major record companies, including Sony Music which eventually signed the band. In May 2005 Reik released their Reik (album)|self-titled debut album , produced by Abelardo Vazquez . The first single "Yo Quisiera" got heavy rotation on Mexican Pop music|pop radio stations and soon went to number one. Their second single Que Vida La Mia|"Qué Vida La Mía" also topped the Mexican charts as did their third single "Noviembre Sin Ti". Their fourth single, "Niña", failed to match the success of their previous singles, charting only at #33.

Commercial Success


Reik's Reik (album)|debut album went Gold album|gold in Mexico on May 6, 2005 after selling 50,000 copies. In June 2005, Reik traveled to the United States|U.S. to promote their album and its first single. They had a promotional mini-tour that visited Miami, McAllen, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, San Juan (Puerto Rico), and New York. The album was formally released in the United States on May of that same year. To date, the album has sold 40,000 copies in the United States|U.S. alone. By May, the album was certified Platinum album|platinum in Mexico for selling 120,000 copies. They have sold over half a million copies all over America to date. On July 6, 2007, Reik participated in the Alltel Wireless “Mi Círculo, Mi Música” (My Circle, My Music) concert in El Paso , TX.
