Album Summary
The Definitive Portrait Of A Rock 'N' Roll Genius!

Roky Erickson is one of the most influential cult artists of all time. His work with the ’60s Texas group The 13th Floor Elevators bridged garage rock and psychedelia, and cast a long shadow over the punk and post-punk movements. After a 1969 drug bust, the already mentally fragile Roky chose a stay in a mental institution instead of doing jail time, but was subjected to electroshock therapy and emerged in a highly unstable condition. He continued to write brilliant, chilling songs throughout the ’70s and ’80s, and the cult around him grew. In 1990 he was honored with an acclaimed tribute album, Where the Pyramid Meets the Eye, featuring R.E.M., ZZ Top, and Primal Scream. This led to a revival of his fortunes, which included new releases made in conjunction with Charlie Sexton and Gibby Haynes of the Butthole Surfers.

The 2-CD set I Have Always Been Here Before: The Roky Erickson Anthology is the only release to cover his entire 40-year career, making it the definitive Roky Erickson collection.

Album Summary
Nobody had ever heard anything like Roky Erickson when he and his 13th Floor Elevators burst out of Austin, Texas onto the psychedelic scene in 1966 with their scary nugget, You're Gonna Miss Me. A decade later, the power-popping Explosives re-ignited the Austin flame, infusing tight Beatlesque rhythms with the passionate fury of their Elevator hero. By 1979, it was downright inevitable that they come together as a tight quartet. Since 2005, the Explosives have again powered Erickson's inspiring return to the stage. Halloween captures the live experience of Roky and The Explosives from their powerful first cycle, 1979-1981. Explosives drummer Freddie Steady Krc has handpicked the tracks, most unreleased, including the only performance of The Beatles' I've Just Seen a Face. The psychedelic package (cover by San Francisco poster artist Dennis Loren) includes previously unpublished photos plus a complete history of the band's performances from those three amazing years.

Album Summary
Roky (pronounce rock-eeh) Erickson was founding member and lead singer of psychedelic band, Texas’ infamous Thirteenth Floor Elevators. Erickson explored the far reaches of musical and personal extremes. Young musicians like Jerry Garcia, Grace Slick, and Janis Joplin jammed with the influential group. Following a nightmarish '70s mental-hospital stint that had a devastating long-term effect on his mental health, Erickson's subsequent solo work with his group The Aliens revealed a singularly brilliant songwriter and performer whose talent was no less impressive for the fact that he was singing about zombies, vampires and aliens. The demons that abound in Roky's songs are all-too-real reflections of his own troubled psyche, and the combination of the artist's oddly poetic lyrical constructions and his bracing banshee wail makes it clear, as it wasn't always, that he's not kidding! Don’t Slander Me and Gremlins Have Pictures, recorded 1975 -1982, document Roky’s genius.
