|
Sara Hillis is a celtically-influenced singer and composer who has performed her unique brand of music throughout southern Ontario. Whether front and centre on a concert stage or as an atmospheric addition to a reception or a dinner, Sara's music is suitable for all occasions and definitely creates a mood. Sara has composed and arranged all the music on her debut album, The Laurel Tree, and plays all the instruments featured on that album as well as singing. She currently resides in Brantford, Ontario, and performs at folk clubs in and around the area when they are in session.
In 2006, Sara obtained her Masters degree in English Language And Literature from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, from which she also graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in the same subject. It is due to her love of English that she has found much of her inspiration to set the works of poets by the likes of William Blake and Alfred Lord Tennyson to music in a style which she feels fits the lyrical qualities inherent in these poems.
A classically-trained pianist, Sara feels that it was this rigorous formation which has allowed her to both compose and arrange her music, as well as to adapt many of the characteristics of the traditional music of Britain and Ireland to her own unique sound.

Sara Hillis has one goal: to allow others to gain as much joy from hearing her music as she has had in creating it. With a strong community spirit, Sara seeks to promote her music for its own sake, rather than for her fame or riches, and to do all in a way that will contribute to the health and happiness of the communities in which she performs. Music is a gift from God, and as such, Sara wishes to treasure it rather than to exploit it. Sara will perform free-of-charge for charity and fund-raising events.
