Much like a horseman looking for a new trail across rough terrain, local country performer Seth Turner has his sites set on reaching Nashville and a successful recording contract. Having traveled a sometimes rocky road the singer/songwriter has gained strength and knowledge from his experiences. From his roots in Custer, South Dakota to the Las Vegas Strip, Seth's music has stirred the hearts and stomped the feet of listeners in the tradition of great country music.
"Most everything I write about is life," remarked Seth. "When I pick up my guitar and start singing, I am telling a story as seen through my eyes. Sometimes it is what I see happening in other people's lives, and often it is what I've gone through. Writing songs can be therapy for my soul, but performing is another kind of thing. When I get on stage, I just want to entertain the people."
For those in his audience, entertained is exactly what they get. On stage Seth is at home and on fire. With his strong matter-of-fact singing voice and stage presence, the crowd is quickly taken up by his heart felt words and his grab you by the belt buckle and boot stomping rhythm.
Seth was hooked on performing when at 16 he took to the stage as a singer in "Hillbilly Heaven" during the Black Hills tourist season. Now at 28, Seth has written over 150 songs and performed at every opportunity. From living rooms and camp fires to Las Vegas resort stages and talent competitions, Seth needs little more than handing him a guitar to encourage him to perform.
With wonderful range and storytelling ability, Seth sings each song as if he lived it. Along with his own songs, Seth entertains with a vast repertoire. The singer draws from his musical influences Merle Haggard, Dwight Yoakam, Alan Jackson, Tracy Byrd, Chris Ledoux, Hank Williams Sr. and Jr., George Strait, David Ball, Bob Seger, The Eagles, CCR, James Taylor, and Jimmy Buffet.
While he instinctively comes back to country music, Seth confides that his tastes in music are varied, and often finds solitude and passion while listening to Mozart and other classical music behind closed doors.
Seth was recently seen on stage at Gilley's in the New Frontier Hotel of the Las Vegas Strip, opening for Tracy Byrd, as a regional finalist in the Nashville Star competition in Los Angeles, and at other venues such as the Gold Coast Casino during the National Finals Rodeo.
Seth is now concentrating on finishing his debut album "Another Day in My Life," and keeping up with his website.
"My web site ( http://www.sethturner.com ) has been instrumental in regards to everything that I am doing," remarked Seth. "I've been given a tremendous amount of feedback on my website, and I have been able to gauge what is working for my fans. I have used the information in making decisions as to what will go on my album."
A rancher's son, Seth remains single while still looking for the perfect woman.
"I'm not opposed to meeting the right woman," he says, "It is just that I don't want to write any more heartbreak songs. But right now I don't have woman in my life, so until such time, I'll just keep singing my favorite songs like 'Someday When I Meet Jaime Pressly.'"
Ranging from two-step to waltz to boot stomping west coast swing, Seth's new songs are sure to pick you up, break your heart, and spin you around the dance floor. Many of Seth's recent songs are available on his website and include: "Tied One on a Little Too Tight," "Another Day in My Life," "Just One Look," "Something Out of a Dream," "Something In a Longneck," and "Settlin' In to Settle Down Again." These songs were written, composed, and arranged by Seth Turner.
Summing up his life's ambition, Seth remarked, "I love music. When writing music I get the chance to think and express my feelings about relationships and people. When jamming with other musicians or playing in a band, I develop other relationships.....that is like nothing else. And as to playing on stage, it is what I enjoy and want to do more than anything else in the world." He adds, "Since my first time on stage, and after hearing the crowd’s appreciation, I was hooked. Ever since then I have taken every opportunity to sing in front of people. For the past 12 years I have done what it takes to get by, but all the while staying focused on my dreams of going to Nashville and that big recording contract."
Seeing and hearing Seth perform, it is apparent that he has what it takes and will undoubtedly reach his goals.
