Biography
Brooks was born in Breckenridge, Texas . After winning a contest sponsored by Future Farmers of America , he went to Nashville, Tennessee , and secured a contract with Decca Records in 1998.
Recording as Shane Stockton, he released his debut single "What If I'm Right" that year. The song was also made into a music video which aired on CMT . Owens sent Stockton a two-page letter saying that he enjoyed the album.
