Shotgun for Royalty consists of strings and skins, and the two guys who make noise with them. While other two pieces (White Stripes, Black Keys) follow a garage-grunge accord, this technically dazzling guitar/drum duo strives to create a new, fuller set of sounds. Guitarist Brad Locher uses the instrument to its fullest potential, employing a wide arsenal of pedals and electronic effects to compliment his altogether baffling musicianship. Christian (on Drums) follows suit with a frenzied fury in the beats, broken only by frenetic fills that consistently leave audiences spellbound. There are two elements of Shotgun for Royalty that separates them from the throngs of current independent bands. The first is their seemingly effortless ability to create coherent and infectious songs while maintaining the technical wizardry that has become infamous in their work. The second, more astounding aspect, is the fullness of sound accomplished by the duo. Listening to their live tracks, one could easily distinguish a lead, rhythm and bass in virtually any given song. It's hard to believe its all coming from one set of strings.
