This was our 3rd visit to The Knitting Factory's 'Old Office' venue, and this time it was our CD Release Party! Tonight was the night we formally introduced our debut album, Within State Lines! Before we go into details, we have to give out a lot of thanks to a lot of people! A huge thanks goes out to MusicFreedom.com for sending us banners, cards, stickers, and your support! Also, a big thanks goes out to LeBlanc, Wayne Hsu, and Ben Warren for putting on awesome shows before our set! You guys all rock!
Something about our set was different tonight. We felt an incredible connection with the music, the audience, and ourselves. We couldn't explain it any better than that, unless you were there for the show. Each note, chord, and song sounded better and better as the night went on. There was a real musical energy that spun around the room, and it would only get more and more intense as the set went on. There are so many examples of this energy, but one specific example sticks out in our minds, and will for a long time. Flightless Wings was by far the most powerful sound of the night. Tonight, the song had changed completely, and became a powerful sound of music. We added a new musical element to the song. Josh's girlfriend, Maya, played piano, sang and added a whole new dynamic to the song that we never could've imagined. We also dedicated tonight's performance of the song to a friend that had passed away exactly 1 year to the day of the show. From that point on, the hush silence around the crowd turned from plain silence into something very rare and powerful. Artists of all trades can say they make their art for others, so that others may peek into their world. Tonight, the crowd wasn't in our world, nor were we in their world. We were all in one world, together, brought together by music.
Our Setlist: ~ Swimming in Time ~ Look Around ~ Double Standard ~ Flightless Wings ~ More Than Words ~ Lets Stay Together ~ Improv ~ Her Song ~ Code Red ~ Try |
