Digitally remastered and expanded edition of this 1986 album from the AOR/Melodic Rockers. Their previous album, the note perfect, Vital Signs, resuscitated Survivor's career after a period of instability, providing them with a US Top 10 album that spawned no less than three hit singles. With the pressure on, the band retired to their native Chicago to write and rehearse their sixth album When Seconds Count, a record that would once again prove that Survivor were the kings of the American melodic hard rock scene. Recorded in Los Angeles, produced by long time associate Ron Nevison (Heart, Bad Company, UFO etc) and featuring accomplished vocalist Jimi Jamison, the album picks up perfectly from Vital Signs boasting a number of classic cuts including the hit single 'Is This Love'. Make no mistake, WSC, originally released in 1986, is a record chock full of great songs, placing Survivor in the pantheon of primo American AOR units, alongside masters of the craft such as REO Speedwagon, Journey and Foreigner. Japanese edition of Survivor's 2006 return 17 years after their last studio album and two popular "Greatest Hits" compilations. The personnel line-up features Frankie Sullivan along with long-time members Jimi Jamison and Marc Droubay plus Chris Grove and the new face Barry Dunaway (formerly of Dokken and Yngwie Malmsteen) on bass. The album was recorded over a period of three months in Los Angeles at the end of 2005 and this record satisfies the great demand of the fans who have been asking for new songs that could continue the legacy of the groups great sound. Recorded in Los Angeles, the band was allowed to self produce, thus further enhancing the likelihood that a rougher, more immediate sound could be captured. Premonition didnt disappoint, showcasing the band in an upbeat and, dare we say it, far more aggressive mood, harnessing a sound that leaps out of the speakers and wrestles you to the floor with little room for pleasantries. Naturally, the bands greatest asset was still very much in focus; quality songs with hooks and melodies to die for. Tracks such as 'Summer Nights', 'Light Of A Thousand Smiles' (inspired by Journey), 'Poor Man's Son' and the balls-out rocking of 'Chevy Nights' all contain a magical mixture of streamlined efficiency and brutal honesty, resulting in a sound that virtually defined the musical climate. It certainly turned heads; most notably that of Sylvester Stallone who requested the band write a theme song for his upcoming Rocky III movie. No prizes for guessing what came next. Rock Candy. 2010.
