The members play a blend of Canada|Canadian soul, gospel, North American folk, Brazilian samba, old time country string band, zydeco, and Irish dance music. Hailing from Winnipeg, Manitoba , their music draws heavily on all of the North America n musical traditions, while successfully integrating Latin-music-influenced percussion. Their first album, Your Daughters & Your Sons was nominated for a Juno Awards|Juno award . Their eponymous second album won a Juno for Best Roots & Traditional Album by a Group, and "Heaven's My Home," from their third album, was nominated for the 2007 Grammy award for Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. Their 4th album Fast Paced World (featuring Sarah Dugas as vocalist and Christian Dugas on drums) was released in 2008. It also received a JUNO nomination for Best Roots & Traditional Album. In March 2007 lead singer Jessee Havey left the band to pursue other interests.
Singer Sarah Dugas joined the band in March 2007. In October 2007 The Duhks Sustainability Project was launched to raise awareness about ways to live a more economically viable and ecologically sustainable lifestyle. http://www.greenduhks.com In April 2008, The Duhks performed a post- Earth Day benefit concert|benefit in Nederland, Colorado|Nederland , Colorado .
As of 2010, the band were on semi-hiatus, playing far fewer shows. In April 2011, the band announced on their web site that this pace would continue, including some shows with former members Havey and Senior, as the Dugas siblings are now also recording and performing as a duo.
