Album Summary
One of the dreamiest sounding of all the girl groups, The Shirelles were the first in the genre to hit the No. 1 slot with the all-time classic Will You Love Me Tomorrow. The Gerry Goffin-Carole King masterpiece was only one of many now universally popular songs the group recorded. Also here are Dedicated To The One I Love (later recorded by The Mamas & Papas), Boys, Baby It's You (both covered by The Beatles), Tonight's The Night, Mama Said (covered by Dusty Springfield), Soldier Boy (No. 1 in 1962) and 27 others! The group's five Top 10 entries, five further Top 40 placings and numerous smaller chart forays made them one of the most successful female groups, rivaled only by Detroit's Marvelettes, Vandellas and Supremes. Most of The Shirelles recordings were produced by Luther Dixon and they worked with the cream of writers, producers and arrangers on the New York Scene of the early 1960s. Leiber and Stoller, Van McCoy, Bert Keyes, Teacho Wiltshire, Ed Townsend and Burt Bacharach. The names speak for the quality of the recordings. Spin this little silver disc, drift off back to the 60s and dream on!

Album Summary
Ace UK's final pairing of two original Scepter Shirelles albums on one CD brings together one concept album and one (mostly) live set originally released in 1964 and 1967 respectively.

Sing The Golden Oldies is the girls' tribute to their peers, mixing 50s doo wop hits by the Willows, the Cadillacs, the Solitaires, Little Anthony and the Imperials and the Platters with more recent early 60s smashes by such as Bruce Channel, Del Shannon and Gene McDaniels. Spontaneous Combustion is - apart from two tracks - a genuine live album from an era when they were far from commonplace in black American music.

Neither of these albums has ever been on CD before. They are complemented by two bonus tracks that are appropriate to the period, both of which are also making their Ace CD debut.

All tracks are presented in stereo where they were originally recorded in stereo. Sleeve notes are by acknowledged Shirelles expert and friend, Dennis Garvey, who has spoken with Shirley and Beverly expressly for this set.

Ace hopes to round out this series later in 2010 with a Singles, Stereo Mixes and Rarities package that will tie up all the loose ends of the girls' Scepter catalogue - watch this space!

Album Summary
The penultimate pairing in Ace's series of 2-On-1 reissues of the original Scepter albums of the Shirelles brings together two highly acclaimed, and very rare, albums that came out on Scepter's budget label, Pricewise, during a time that the group was in litigation with the company and refused to record any new songs.

Swing The Most and Hear And Now were budget only in name, as the repertoire is of the same high quality as anything found on their official Scepter albums. In fact, many Shirelles fans consider these to be two of the very best albums of the girls' entire career.

Many of the tracks were unissued prior to their appearance on this album including their original versions of Oh Not Not My Baby (Maxine Brown), Get Rid Of Him (Dionne Warwick) , That Boy Is Messin' Up My Mind (The Orchids) and His Lips Get in The Way (Bernadette Castro).

The selections also include several Shirelles hits that never appeared on their Scepter albums, including What Does A Girl Do and Sha-La-La (covered in the UK by Manfred Mann).

Swing the Most and Hear And Now were originally issued in mono only, but we have done our best to locate all the stereo masters that still exist for these tracks and present them here wherever possible in full stereo.

This is another valuable addition to a series that will conclude in early 2010 with the pairing of The Shirelles Sing the Golden Oldies and their live album, Spontaneous Combustion.
