“When I first saw a picture of these guys I thought I was in for some straight up punk rock. The singer has tapered pants, tight shirt, tattoos and punk rock buttons everywhere. I was wrong. What I got instead blew me away. Brophy, the mouthpiece of the Pricks, is a whiteboy from Orange County who spits out punk as fuck rap…that’s right I said rap” - WHM Nuthouse Records
The Pricks are not just a seven piece band, The Pricks are a movement originating from Los Angeles slowly taking over the locals scene. The drive in the movement is the positive lyrics, delivered in an aggressive manner, all written and delivered by Brophy . “The seven members…live by a motto: It’s not just the music, it’s a lifestyle. A hot, up-and-coming band, although not tied up in record deals yet, The Pricks have sponsorship from Atwater Clothing, Hoven Eyewear, and HotBox Vapors, and thus rock their styles. An entire Pricks-attire fascination has ensued, with the crowd decked out in Pricks hats, shirts, hoodies, ladies’ tank tops, you name it. These particular Pricks are moving beyond music into a cultural phenomenon.” Review, LA Taco magazine, February, 2007 The collaboration consists of T-Nut who is responsible for all production and back up vocals/keyboard for the band. T-Nut has an impressive west coast hip hop background, and 15 years experience in the industry working with major artists, such as The Eastsiderz, Kokane, Daz Dilinger, and Snoop Dogg, he is the mastermind behind the beats. The music incorporates a strong hip hop undertone in the beats, and delivery, Brophy brings the vocals influenced strongly by late 80’s punk rock bands like the Clash, The Ramones and Screeching Weasel. Brophy boasts anti-everything lyrics displaying a frustration of being a social outcast in America, but providing a creative outlet to use those frustrations toward a positive movement, with a passion and protest to dig deep inside yourself and follow your own beliefs. Unsurprisingly, this message boasts loud and clear with today’s generation of young Punk, Rock and Hip Hop fans alike, providing a voice, people are reacting to it. The response on myspace.com alone has been outrageous, the myspace page receives over 250 downloads and plays per day, people are begging for more. The Pricks have held permanent spot on KROQ Local’s Only Sunday nights for 10 straight months in a row, The #1 Rock station in America is currently spinning The Pricks second song from ‘Don’t Want To Be Used’, “Mental Case”, and the phones are ringing off the hook with requests. “After some airplay on Modern Rock stalwart KROQ, the band drew a bevy of A&R reps to their packed show at the Roxy the week before last, and several label heads were reportedly in attendance. The band’s fusion of rock with a little bit of punk and a little bit of rap is right up the Modern Rock alley, and we’ve seen this picture play out before, so expect this to be the latest radio-driven bidding derby” Rodel Delfin Hits Magazine, June 2007 The live performances are extremely high energy, It’s hard to take your eyes off them the entire set. “Lyrically…I don’t know what the hell this maniac whiteboy from O.C. is yelling about but it kept me entertained the whole way through” (WHM) The Pricks recently sold out two back to back shows at The Roxy Theatre in Hollywood on May 11th, and June 21st 2007. Also included on the Bill for Events and festivals such as KROQ’s Inland Ivasion on the side stage, September 15th. And an ASR party for VonZipper in San Diego, Friday September 7th. The Pricks released their debut album “Don’t want to be used” earlier this year.
