|
I started my interest in music while entering fifth grade and by the seventh grade; I was performing in all the school bands. During my school years, I was played different instruments, such as, drums, contra bass, clarinet, bass clarinet and oboe. I was also playing flute, saxophone and drums in churches around my community where I taught myself to play piano and organ. In my freshman year at JFK West Paterson High School, I performed as organist for the concert choir and section leader for the drums in the marching band.
While in my junior year at East Side High School Paterson, NJ. I performed in various bands playing many different instruments. At Montclair State College I also performed as an organist for the gospel chorus for two years and placed second place in the Alpha Gold Review in New York City. After completion of High School, I served in the Navy for four years, returning to resume my musical career.
It was 1983 that I toured with a group for one year named “Final Act To Quebec, Canada”. I then joined a group named “Network” and toured Canada for another year. Returning to New Jersey and formed a Jazz group named “Nite Breeze” and performed at venues, such as, Fat Tuesday, Symphony Hall and various venues throughout New York and New Jersey for two years.
In 1987, I joined a group named “Top Secret” and toured Singapore for nine months and South East Asia for one year. Returning back to Canada, I joined another group named “WPB Band” and toured Japan for five months. It was in Japan that I started my solo career and named myself “TMJ/Tbone”. I toured Japan, Guam, Siapian, Bali and Hawaii. I lived in Guam for two years and when I returned to the United States of America, I became the keyboard player for one of the “Black Street” former singer’s that lasted six months. Then I toured Morocco as a duet, where I was the band and had a trumpet player up front and had honors to perform for the King and Prince of Morocco.
After returning to the United States of America from Morocco, I started, my solo performance playing for various churches and Jazz functions. Then I started a group named “Six Shoes” which consists of a keyboardist, drums and a saxophone player. While forming this band, I accepted an organist/keyboard position for “Bishop Al Green’s” touring band and is presently touring with “Bishop Al Green” today, 2007 while pursuing my solo career as a Jazz Funk / R&B keyboard player.
