|
Todd Butler is a highly original guitarist and songwriter whose mastery of satire has helped him to become recognized as one of Canada’s funniest performers. He has the record for the most guest performances on CBC’s ‘Madly Off In All Directions’ and has recently shot segments featuring his crazy comedy for CBC TV’s ‘This Hour Has 22 Minutes’. Butler is also a master ‘MC’ and has hosted many Festival mainstages. His favourite gigs include the Vancouver Comedy Festival and the Halifax International Buskers Festival where he was awarded the People’s Choice Award. Todd also won the PMIA Award for comedy songwriting and appeared at the CBC Winnipeg Comedy Festival Gala on CBC Television in 2004.
Until recently, Todd’s comedic skills have overshadowed his stunning abilities as a guitarist. He has taught guitar at the British Columbia Bluegrass Workshop in Sorrento, BC. Todd plays a guitar ‘outside the box’ and revels in experimentation and improvisation when soloing. And, boy is he a hot picker!
His CD,’Dobro and Guitar’ (with dobro wiz Doug Cox) made the 2003 top ten list in Acoustic Guitar Magazine, earning them a spot at the Montreal International Jazz Festival. His latest release, ‘Idle Canadian’ is poised to set the world on fire with it’s unique blend of satire, hot pickin’ and well crafted songs.

With over 30 years of live performance experience in comedy and club/festival/studio gigs, my band and I go from slow, smoky blues to breakneck bluegrass with such ease that our audiences are left in a state of excited suspension wondering where the next turn will take them! A night with us is a twisting journey through such varied musical terrain as Folk, R+B, Reggae, Country Swing, Blues, Bluegrass and thoughtful ballads in the finest singer/songwriter tradition. All delivered with the wit and expertise that only comes with years of live performance experience. For a night of musical satire, superb songwriting and pure entertainment, you can't go wrong with Todd Butler!
