6 Top Ten Singles with Over 4 MILLION Albums Sold - Tonic returns with their 4th new album entitled, 'TONIC'

It s been almost two years since their last project, the Grammy nominated 'Head on Straight' and the band have returned reenergized with a collection of eleven new songs. Each member adds a variety of musical contributions to the mix Emerson Hart provides lead vocals, acoustic guitars and keyboards; Jeff Russo plays lead electric, acoustic and rhythm guitars, keyboards, piano, lap steel, percussion and lends background vocals; Dan Lavery works the bass guitar, piano, acoustic guitar, harmonizes and sings background vocals. Produced by Tonic and Nathaniel Kunkel, 'TONIC' is redolent of their trademark honest, powerful, melodic rock sound.

Tonic have been on a whirlwind ride since their debut in 1998 when they earned the distinction of having released the #1 most-played rock song of the year. Since that auspicious debut, the band have sold millions, won numerous awards and Grammy nominations and developed a huge worldwide fan base as they tirelessly toured the world. All three members continue to bring a special energy to Tonic as they have created music collectively as well as explored other outlets both musical and otherwise (family life and fatherhood, being particularly notable). With this band as their central focus, however, they never present anything less than their best effort and 'TONIC' is a sincere reflection of that.

After TONIC scored a platinum album, a pair of Grammy® nominations and several hit singles -- including "If You Could Only See," the most-played rock radio song of 1997 -- the Modern Rockers went on hiatus in 2004. This summer, however, TONIC returns, first with a tour and then this fall with its first new album in seven years. In anticipation, the group's first retrospective, A CASUAL AFFAIR: THE BEST OF TONIC revisits the enormously popular band that blended the raw honesty of rock with unabashed pop appeal, killer melodies with revved-up guitar heroics. Featuring 12 selections from TONIC's three albums (LEMON PARADE, SUGAR, HEAD ON STRAIGHT), A CASUAL AFFAIR: THE BEST OF TONIC provides a refresher for today's musical malaise. The three previously unreleased bonus tracks on A CASUAL AFFAIR: THE BEST OF TONIC are a live version of their signature cut "Irish," an acoustic take on "You Wanted More," and their live rendition of "Sugar." In 2005, after nearly a decade together, the band members decided to go their separate ways. Singer Emerson Hart released his successful solo debut, Cigarettes & Gasoline, guitarist Jeff Russo recorded with the Low Stars and scored TV series (including "Crossing Jordan," "Bionic Woman" and "The Unusuals"), and bass player Dan Lavery recorded and toured with The Fray, among others. With A CASUAL AFFAIR: THE BEST OF TONIC and the band reunited, TONIC's meaningful relationship with its fans continues.

Los Angeles pop-rock trio Tonic's choice of Bob Rock as producer of their third disc is an odd one. Rock is a meat-and-potatoes studio man known for dialing up the thud quotient (see Metallica, the Cult, and especially, Veruca Salt), while Tonic is noted for its sweeping power ballads. With the release of Head On Straight, they still are. Certainly, there are some jagged moments: "Liar" absolutely pounds and opener "Roses" growls, lyrically and musically. But there's unabashed emotion in tracks like "On Your Feet," "Ring," "Count on Me," the title track, and the gently rocking "Let Me Go." And then there's "Irish," a rousing, historic jig where guitars mimic bagpipes, Big Country-style, and singer Emerson Hart manages a credible Irish lilt. Perhaps Rock's Maui base proved irresistible, but really, this is more of the same stuff Tonic gave us with Lemon Parade and Sugar--sturdy, wide-eyed power-pop with lyrics reaching for something grander than "ooh baby baby." Iconic Tonic, formed in 2010 by long -time friends Dave Spencer, Chad Eric, and Tony Hawes. Once together, the song ideas began to flow, and they immediately began rehearsing and recording. These guys give nothing less than 110%; a rock band with passion, drive, and one that has no creative barriers. Iconic Tonic's debut album is produced by Seattle's renowned mix engineer/producer Deron Daum and mastered by Dave Donnelly (Whitesnake, Kiss, Bret Michaels Band, Journey) and will be released in 2011.

You may have already heard Roots Tonic. In fact, you may love Roots Tonic and not even know it. Roots Tonic is Hasidic reggae superstar Matisyahu’s band. Matisyahu’s star has risen dramatically in this past year, culminating in the recent release of Youth on Sony/Epic (currently #4 on Billboard’s Top 200) and the certification of Live at Stubbs as a Gold Record. One cannot underestimate the importance of Roots Tonic to Matisyahu’s success. Roots Tonic bassist Josh Werner co-writes many of Matisyahu’s songs, and Roots Tonic brings those songs to stage, to record and to life, making them pop with the drama and dynamics you’ll hear on this album. It is no coincidence that world class bassist and producer Bill Laswell is involved in this project. For one, it is Laswell who produced Matisyahu’s Youth. Laswell, the world music genre-fusing genius, has worked with so many notable artists: Mick Jagger, Afrika Bambaataa, Yoko Ono, Brian Eno, Fela Kuti, John Zorn, Peter Gabriel, George Clinton, Herbie Hancock, Iggy Pop, Laurie Anderson, Motorhead, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Sly & Robbie, Swans, Last Poets, and has remixed the work of Santana, Bob Marley & Miles Davis. As one writer puts it, “Bill Laswell is god. Can you prove he’s not?” He is a true maverick and a perfect match for Roots Tonic and Matisyahu’s blend of reggae, hip hop, soul and traditional Jewish music. Their chemistry was so perfect, in fact, that after the Youth sessions were completed, Laswell invited Roots Tonic back to his Orange Studios to record this album, Roots Tonic Meets Bill Laswell, which is NOT to be confused with the dub version of Matisyahu’s Youth. With no Matisyahu, Roots Tonic was forced to stand and deliver on an album without vocals or lyrics on which to rely. Deliver they did. With Laswell serving as studio lion Lee “Scratch” Perry to Roots Tonic’s Aggravators, Josh, Jonah and Aaron have created a living, breathing disc of instrumental reggae, as funky as, say, the classic “Macka Dub” by the Barrett Brothers (Aston “Family Man” Barrett & Carlton Barrett, The Wailers’ rhythm section). The grooves are so loose and lively you can tell they were having a blast recording. At the mixing board, Laswell economically weaves in everything from synth stabs to phone touch tones to unrecognizable sound splatters. He stays out of the way of the bass, and heaps echo on the drums and guitar, allowing the high end to spiral out from the music.
