“Tulasi represents the righteous earth goddess, said to contain traits of beauty, strength, balance and virtue. Indian legends have it that a woman by the name of Tulasi was transformed into a plant, the sacred and holy basil.”
The group, Tulasi, is encompassed by just that balance, balancing a full piece horn section (Trombone, trumpet, Saxophone and Flute, known as Jah Horns) with therapeutic keys. Powerful female vocals of soul and knowledgeable lyrics off set reggae, jazz, soul, Hip-Hop and funk produced by this six piece band. From stepper beats to high hat jazz, the bass captures any tune using stand up, fretless and other string instruments. This band brings courage to the people, by promoting love, opening minds and focusing on achieving goals. Hailing from Long Beach and the Foothills of California, Tulasi has performed along the coast of California stopping in places like Santa Cruz, San Diego and Sacramento. With inspirations like Ella Fitzgerald, Aswad, Jill Scott, Arrested Development and George Benson, this band can bring out an entourage of all types, all ages and all music lovers.
Tulasi has been working with the J. Ross-Parrelli Foundation to create a “higher education for the lower income student”. J. Ross the co-founder of this non-profit organization is the lead singer for Tulasi and donates 15% of CD profits to local schools and art programs, as well as donates time and energy to keep the hearts of our community focused on a better tomorrow.
