The demo contained the tracks "2nd Hand Smoke," "Diemuthafuckadie," and "How Does It Feel? " Bruce was extremely impressed, invited Methric and Spaniolo to perform on 'The House of Horrors Tour', and signed them to Psychopathic Records . Before the tour kicked off, Bruce, Methric and Spaniolo decided on a name that they felt would fit the duo—"Twiztid". Twiztid's 1997 debut album, Mostasteless , was originally released independently by Psychopathic.cite book |last=Bruce |first=Joseph |authorlink=Joseph Bruce |coauthors=Hobey Echlin |editor=Nathan Fostey |title=ICP: Behind the Paint |origdate= |year=2003 |origmonth=August |edition=2nd Edition |publisher=Psychopathic Records |location=Royal Oak, Michigan |isbn=09741846083 |chapter=Angels and Devils |page=375 When Insane Clown Posse signed with Island Records , they helped get a deal for Twiztid as well. After a show in Indianapolis , Twiztid's tour bus stopped at a Waffle House in Greenfield, Indiana . When a customer began to harass Spaniolo and Joseph Bruce, a fight broke out between the customer and all of the bands' members.cite book |last=Bruce |first=Joseph |authorlink=Joseph Bruce |coauthors=Hobey Echlin |editor=Nathan Fostey |title=ICP: Behind the Paint |origdate= |edition=second |publisher=Psychopathic Records |location=Royal Oak, Michigan |isbn=09741846083 |pages=353–365 |chapter=Life on the Road|year=2003|month=August Months later on June 4, 1998, Twiztid were charged with battery.cite news |url= http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/5929428/insane_clown_posse_plead_guilty |title=Insane Clown Posse Plead Guilty |accessdate=2007-12-26 |last=Bendersky |first=Ari |date=June 11, 1998 |publisher= Rolling Stone |archiveurl = http://web.archive.org/web/20080112093434/ http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/5929428/insane_clown_posse_plead_guilty |archivedate = January 12, 2008|deadurl=yes

In 1999, Mostasteless was pulled, and re-released on Island with somewhat different track listing.cite book |last=Bruce |first=Joseph |authorlink= |coauthors=Hobey Echlin |editor=Nathan Fostey |title=ICP: Behind the Paint |origdate= |year=2003 |origmonth=August |edition=2nd Edition |publisher=Psychopathic Records |location=Royal Oak, Michigan |isbn=09741846083 |pages=562–563 |chapter=Complete Discography That track listing included brand new songs, but left out tracks such as "Murder Murder Murder" and "She Ain't Afraid" because of uncleared samples. In his review of the reissued album, Allmusic 's Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote that "Although the thought of a group of Insane Clown Posse protégés isn't exactly inspiring", the album "may take you by surprise... Mostasteless actually works better than most ICP records," that "Twiztid often is more convincing than its Dark Carnival (Insane Clown Posse)|Dark Carnival colleagues," and concluded that "if you don't buy into the whole comic book - horror fiction|horror schtick, Mostasteless ...will be irritating, but if you've bought into it, you'll enjoy this record as much, if not more, than most ICP albums."cite web |url=Allmusic|class=album|id=r421519|pure_url=yes |title=Review of Mostasteless |accessdate=2008-08-21 |last=Erlewine |first=Stephen Thomas |publisher= Allmusic Mostasteless peaked at #8 on the Billboard (magazine)|Billboard Top Heatseekers Billboard charts|chart , and #149 on the Billboard 200| Billboard 200 .cite web | title=Charts and awards for Twiztid | url= http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/retrieve_chart_history.do? model.chartFormatGroupName=Albums& model.vnuArtistId=339534& model.vnuAlbumId=1216457 | publisher= Billboard (magazine)|Billboard | accessdate=2009-03-28

In his review of the album, Allmusic's Brad Mills wrote that "this kind of music appeals to a small sector of hip-hop listeners and will probably do well within its niche market, but the average hip-hop listener will just have to understand that this is a different kind of album."cite web |url=Allmusic|class=album|id=r505793|pure_url=yes |title=Review of Freek Show |accessdate=2008-08-21 |last=Mills |first=Brad |publisher= Allmusic The album peaked at #51 on the Billboard 200.
