|
Vincent Flores was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. With the support of his musical family he taught himself bass and began playing in local rock bands at age 13. By high school he was writing and performing his own music.
In his late teens Vincent moved to Portland, Oregon to begin his formal musical training. He began his studies with Fred Rothchild at Reed College and then moved on to Mount Hood Community College and finally, Marylhurst University. While there he majored in music theory and composition. Vincent studied bass and performed with musicians such as Mel Brown and Jeff Lorber. He was front man in the 1950’s revival band, Butch Royal and the Dukes of Oyal. After returning to Bay Area in his mid-twenties, Vincent joined the San Jose based band Succotash joining musicians Joe Weed, Bruce Bowers, Beverly Smith, and Steve Kritzer. A year later, he traveled to Italy and spent a summer at the Spoleto Music Festival with Gian-Carlo Menotti and then returned to San Jose to study Composition and World Music with Lou Harrison at San Jose State University. After concluding his studies, Vincent went on to perform a wide variety of musical styles with local artists, including his mandolinist father Tony Flores and Indie artist Gi Menicucci. The San Jose Stage Company featured his original score in their production of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Additionally, Vincent is a BMI artist with a catalog of over 30 pieces of music, which can be heard on radio, television, stage and film.
