Jeordie Osbourne White (born June 20, 1971), better known by his pseudonym Twiggy Ramirez (derived from Twiggy , a fashion icon, and Richard Ramirez , a convicted serial killer ), is an American musician, who is best known for being the bassist and guitarist for Marilyn Manson . He was also the bassist for A Perfect Circle , and Nine Inch Nails (live only). He is also the vocalist and multi-instrumentalist for Goon Moon . He left Marilyn Manson in 2002, but rejoined the band in 2008. He has been a principal songwriter for the band and has also contributed to some of the The Desert Sessions|Desert Sessions recordings.

Personal life

Though born in New Jersey , he moved to Florida sometime during his childhood where by his own admission he grew up on " Star Wars and heavy metal (music)|heavy metal ". He has three younger brothers, Westley, Dustin, and Aiden. His mother, Dana Brown, was formerly a cage dancer groupie for such bands Citation needed|date=April 2009 as the Kinks, giving Jeordie famous musical contact. He is of Italians|Italian and Scottish people|Scottish descent.citation needed|date=December 2010
Influenced by the likes of Motley Crue , Van Halen and Iron Maiden , he first picked up a guitar at the age of 13. Although a New Jersey native, he spent the better portion of his youth in the Fort Lauderdale, Florida|Ft. Lauderdale area, where he quickly embraced South Florida's growing music scene and, by age 15, had joined his first band, The Ethiopians. Citation needed|date=June 2009

Musical career

Early in his career, White was in a speed metal cover band called The Ethiopians covering songs such as Metallica's "Trapped Under Ice". Between 1989 and 1993 White played rhythm guitar, bass and provided backing vocals for Amboog-a-Lard .

(1993-2002) Marilyn Manson

White met Marilyn Manson in the late 80's while working in a used records store in (Coral Square Mall), Ft. Lauderdale. There the two realized they had much in common, but had yet to work on a musical endeavor. He became an honorary spooky kid, and went by the groupie name Gordy White. In March 1993, White took part in Manson's side project Mrs. Scabtree and shared vocal duties with then girlfriend Jessicka . Jeordie did not join Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids until Gidget Gein was ejected from the band by the manager in December 1993. White was given the Manson band member name Twiggy Ramirez , which was derived by taking the first name from English supermodel Twiggy and the surname from American serial killer Richard Ramirez . Much of Twiggy's early look from the multi colored dreadlocks down to the dress style was taken directly from Gidget Gein and Jessicka.

In 1998, White made a cameo in Monster Magnet 's music video for " Space Lord ". In 2001, White appeared on an MTV Cribs episode: the " Ozzfest Edition".

As a result of many lineup changes (specifically guitarists), Twiggy was largely responsible for most of the songwriting on the albums Antichrist Superstar , Mechanical Animals and Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death) .

(2003-2007) After Manson

After departing the band, he played two live shows with California punk metal band Mondo Generator , and auditioned for the role of second guitar in Queens of the Stone Age , which he lost to Troy Van Leeuwen of A Perfect Circle . He also auditioned for a spot as bass player (after Jason Newsted 's departure) in Metallica , but lost out to former Suicidal Tendencies / Ozzy Osbourne bassist Robert Trujillo , which is documented briefly in their film, Some Kind of Monster (film)|Some Kind of Monster . Several months later, White replaced Paz Lenchantin in A Perfect Circle, the project of Tool (band)|Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan and former Tool (band)|Tool guitar tech Billy Howerdel as a full member of the band on bass guitar. White later joined Queens of the Stone Age front man Josh Homme on the ninth and tenth volumes of Homme's music project The Desert Sessions . He also contributed to Melissa Auf der Maur 's solo debut.

White assisted in the production of Nine Inch Nails ' album, With Teeth , and toured with them during 2005-06 to support the album and then again in 2007 for Year Zero (album)|Year Zero . Jeordie also has his own project with desert-mainstay Chris Goss (U.S.)|Chris Goss called Goon Moon , an underground " stoner rock " band. Guitarist David Catching|Dave Catching is also involved along with Team Sleep /Hella drummer Zach Hill.

White has composed for a range of artists from fictional band Steel Dragon to Bif Naked to his namesake, model Twiggy|Twiggy Lawson with whom he recorded and produced a duet of Dusty Springfield 's "I Only Want To Be With You" for the soundtrack of the MTV film Dead Man On Campus .cite news|url= http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/124965.stm |title=Twiggy joins with namesake shock rocker |publisher=BBC News |date=1998-07-02 |accessdate=2010-11-19 In 2005, White worked with Goon Moon and with them released the EP '' I Got a Brand New Egg Layin' Machine '', recorded at Rancho De La Luna , Prescription and Regime Studios. The band released their first full-length album " Licker's Last Leg " in May 2007.

White appeared on the UNKLE album War Stories playing bass and synths on the track "Burn My Shadow".

(2008) Return to Manson

On January 9, 2008 Marilyn Manson posted a bulletin on MySpace confirming that Tim Skold was leaving Marilyn Manson and that Twiggy Ramirez had rejoined the band in his place. He toured with Manson as the band's new guitarist in support of their seventh studio album. However, Twiggy would stay with Goon Moon after the touring of The High End of Low is finished.

Twiggy also mentioned in an interview that he will keep working with Manson for their next album, which is supposed to be released on a faster timetable than previous albums.cite web|url= http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/BLABBERMOUTH.NET/news.aspx? mode=Article& newsitemID=89247 |title=MARILYN MANSON On TWIGGY's Return: 'I Think We're Going To Start Writing Right Away' - Jan. 25, 2008 |publisher=Roadrunnerrecords.com |date= |accessdate=2011-09-14 http://earsucker.com/2008/01/14/twiggy-ramirez-returns-to-marilyn-manson-for-2008-tour/ Twiggy Ramirez returns to Marilyn Manson for 2008 tour January 14th, 2008 http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2008/01/18/marilyn-manson-bringing-twiggy-songs-satan-one-giant-evil-cocktail-on-tour/ RollingStone "Marilyn Manson Bringing Twiggy Songs, Satan, “One Giant Evil Cocktail” On Tour" January 18, 2008

Preferred equipment

While in Marilyn Manson , Jeordie used the following basses, among many things, showing a strong preference for Gibson instruments, and basses used by his classic rock mentors:

  • Jeordie owns multiple Thunderbirds. During the Guns, God, and Government tour he toured with 5 Thunderbird Basses, most often seen with the pickguard removed, or a plain black pickguard on a black thunderbird. Each bass had different tunings (Standard, DADG) and was used for different songs.

  • 1992 Gibson Thunderbird IV Reverse (seen in the " Disposable Teens " video; used extensively in live performances from 1998–2002, and once again since his reunion with Manson live on stage in 2008). In 1999, while on Manson's Rock Is Dead tour, Jeordie was honored with the Epiphone Thunderbird IV Reverse Goth Edition Citation needed|date=June 2009— a sleek, ebony-colored bass in the Thunderbird IV Reverse style featuring a silver, Gothic-style cross in place of the famous Thunderbird logo (custom made for Jeordie and still sold today)Citation needed|date=June 2009. Regardless of version, this model bass is Jeordie's longtime favorite. The earlier bass from the Disposable Teens video was stolen from Gidget Gein.

  • 1974 Gibson Ripper|Gibson Ripper L9-S Bass (vintage, as seen in " The Dope Show " video) This guitar was a gift from Gene Simmons who wrote and recorded with the same instrument on Kiss (band)|KISS 's Destroyer (Kiss album)|Destroyer album Citation needed|date=June 2009 Citation needed|date=June 2009

  • 1977 Gibson RD bass|Gibson RD Artist Bass (vintage, as seen in the " Dope Hat " and " Coma White " videos). This guitar was sold to a fan through a mutual friend of Jeordie and Manson in 2005 via eBay .

  • BC Rich Warlock Bass w/ Widow headstock (seen in the " Rock is Dead " video).

  • 80's USA BC Rich Warlock bass (4 on a side headstock) Used in live performances from 1998–1999, notably during the first live performance of " The Dope Show " on the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards .Jeordie donated this bass to the Hard Rock Cafe in Ottawa , Canada . It is among their most popular pieces of memorabilia on display.

  • Gibson Les Paul bass. Used live and in the studio. Makes many appearances in early videos (Lunchbox, Get Your Gunn) and saw live use from 1994-1997. This bass was given to Dave Navarro Citation needed|date=June 2009 and named "The Beautiful People bass" as Jeordie said it was the bass he used to write the now famous line. • During his parting of ways with Manson from 2002–2008, he took up the following models as his preferred instruments:

  • Spector NS-2 Bass (live, on tour with A Perfect Circle 2003-2004)

  • Fender Precision Bass (live, on tour with Nine Inch Nails )

  • Music Man StingRay 4 Bass (live, on tour with Nine Inch Nails )

  • Gibson Flying V (With Marilyn Manson)

  • Gibson SG (With Goon Moon)

  • Gibson ES-335 or Lucille (guitar)|Gibson Lucille (With Goon Moon, Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson)
