If genres mean anything, one might describe xrayok’s sound as indie brit-rock with influences ranging from bands as disparate as Nirvana to Sigur Ros, from the Pixies to Kent, Radiohead & the Smashing Pumpkins. But xrayok doesn’t sound like any of them in particular, theirs is a unique style embracing rock/pop structures with intricate rhythms, textured synths and stellar songwriting.
The musical evolution of xrayok began when TJ Hill (vocals, guitar), started xrayok in NY as a solo project. It was not until he and Montreal native, Ally Smith (keyboards, laptop), relocated to Phoenix and hooked up with Chuckie Duff (bass) and Jack Duff (drums, piano) that xrayok became a musical force in the Phoenix music scene. Ex-Kimota member, Michael Hartman, has since replaced Chuckie on bass and backup vocals. xrayok has been a favorite on indieradio and listed as one of Charles Provenchers’ (founder of indieshop.org), favorite unsigned bands.
Artist Mission - xrayok is releasing their debut album, Reflex, in autumn 2004. They will be releasing Reflex independently, but have high hopes as they have already been featured on many online radio stations and select college staions nationwide. xrayok will continue to perform in and around Phoenix and start to broaden their horizons with upcoming shows in California and the southwest. They plan on extensive touring, playing at SxSW 2005, and releasing their second album next year with an artist friendly record label.
