History

Formation (2000)

The band originally formed out of the remnants of multiple highly regarded 90s emo bands. Blair Shehnan ( Knapsack ) lead the band on vocals and guitar, with Padro Benito ( Sunday's Best ) on guitar. They were joined by bassist John McGinnis (Neither Trumpets Nor Drums) and Adam Wade of the recently disbanded Jawbox on drums.

Self-titled EP and debut album "Kill Them With Kindness" (2000-2003)

The band's self-titled debut EP The Jealous Sound (EP)|The Jealous Sound was released in 2000. In 2003 they shopped around their demos for a full-length follow-up to the EP. The band were set to release an album on Mojo Records , but soon after their signing, Mojo parted ways with Universal leaving them without a distribution deal. Shuffled over to Mojo/Jive and with little interest in the band they decided to leave the label and return to Better Looking Records to record Kill Them With Kindness (The Jealous Sound album)|Kill Them With Kindness with producer Tim O'Heir. The album was named by Spin (magazine)|Spin magazine as one of the Top 40 albums of 2003.

"Got Friends EP" (2005-2008)

In 2005 they announced via their website that they had signed to The Militia Group for their second album which would be produced again by Tim O'Heir. The official band website was not been updated for the rest of the year, and rumor spread that lead singer Blair Shehan had decided to quit the band. However, on June 1, 2006, the band posted a blog on their MySpace , commenting that work on their upcoming LP for The Militia Group is progressing. On August 24, one of Militia Group's staff said, "I have heard the new songs myself. They're still putting out material."

After a long silence, leading to more rumours of the band's demise, on August 15, 2008, the band posted a blog on their MySpace page confirming the title of their new release, Got Friends . The blog said the album would be out "real soon" and to stay tuned. On September 4, 2008, the band posted the following on their MySpace page: "Got Friends available on iTunes 10/14/2008", and "Got Friends EP" was released as promised in October 2008.

The rumours of the band's demised were confounded when, according to a blog post on The Village Voice's website posted on October 14, 2008, The Jealous Sound broke up in 2005, and the songs on the Got Friends EP were "the last shreds of material recorded for a new album before Shehan went crazy and more or less disappeared." http://blogs.villagevoice.com/music/archives/2008/10/the_jealous_sou.php

"A Gentle Reminder" (2009-2012)

On February 13, 2009, the band posted the a blog, entitled "There is hope for us...." on their Myspace page with a short message promising more from the band soon. "Thank you all for standing by our side.... We will post something with a little more detail soon. Promise. Love, The Jealous Sound." http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm? fuseaction=blog.view& friendId=816655& blogId=470424404 Another blog post confirmed on June 24, 2009 that the band would accompany Sunny Day Real Estate on their 2009 reunion tour.

Since this time, the band's activity rocketed into the public space again, with the announcement of a new album. This was accompanied by a sporadically updated blog featuring updates on the recording sessions. http://thejealoussound.tumblr.com/ The band announced that they have been joined by friends Nate Mendel of Foo Fighters to play bass and Bob Penn of CoCo B's to play drums on the new album. Part of Mendell's involvement secured them a year of recording and writing in the Foo Fighter's personal studio.

In October 2011, singer Blair Shehan announced that the new album is to be called " A Gentle Reminder " and it will be released in January 2012. This was followed by an official announcement on the band's Facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/thejealoussound/posts/118009581641342
In anticipation of the release, the band released a new song called "Your Eyes Were Shining" via Soundcloud. http://soundcloud.com/the-jealous-sound/your-eyes-were-shining

The band headed out on a short promotion tour in December 2011 and promised a full tour in 2012.

A Gentle Reminder was released on January 31st 2012.
